Must-Know Before Applying for the Visit Visa

FAQ

What is an Offshore and what is an Onshore Visa?

Offshore means, you are applying for a visa while you are still OUTSIDE of Indonesia. Online Application

Onshore means, you are applying for a Visa while you are already INSIDE of Indonesia. Online Application

How do I get the Visa?

The Process is straightforward. Please select the most suitable e-visa option for you (Standard or Express Service, and Single or Package with all Extensions), then fill up the online form.

We will then verify the data with the immigration office. We will give you a feedback, if anything is missing or needs to be clarified.

Once all is good to go, we will send you a bill. After we have received the payment we will proceed the application process. From hereon, the visa application cannot be stopped anymore, and no refund is granted from the immigration office.

Depending on the service you have booked, you will then receive the e-Visa per email from us, you have then 90 days to arrive to Indonesia.

But before, make sure you have gone through all the information on this page and also check the quarantine requirements here.

Please take your time to read it carefully.

What e-Visa am I applying for and what am I allowed to do with it?

You are applying for a VISIT VISA B211A - type BUSINESS VISA. If you are applying from outside of Indonesia you have to apply for an OFFSHORE Visit Visa (not its official name); if you are already in Bali, you will apply for an ONSHORE visa.

The Visit Visa B211A (onshore or offshore, all the same) is a Single entry e-VISA for the purpose of

  • Traveling (newly added due to the covid pandemic)
  • Emergency and urgent work
  • Business meeting, sourcing, business research, attending trainings, seminars, workshops, exhibitions
  • Purchasing goods
  • Film production
  • Voluntary, medical, and sustenance work (humanitarian activities)
  • Government duty
  • Accompanying transport tool in the region of Indonesia
  • Development of marine industry (yachters)
  • Government duty in accordance with Indonesian Presidential related meetings in G20 or International Assembly of 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)

Even though the visa is technically called a business visa, it’s NOT A WORK PERMIT and does not entitle you to take or have a job in Indonesia, that pays you a salary or provides any income.

You can however have business meetings, do networking, explore investment opportunities, sourcing products...and of course, chill at the pool or beach.

There is another VISIT VISA which is called SOCIAL VISA (Visa Budaya), which was very commonly used before the pandemic, but cannot be issued these days, and became for the moment obsolete.

How long is the Visa valid and can it be extended?

Offshore Visa: The initial visa is valid for 60 days (count the days including your day of arrival and day of departure).

Onshore, the initial Visa is valid for 30 days.

EXTENSIONS:

This Visit Visa can be extended four times for 30 days each. For the extension you have to be in Bali and need to hand in the passport 2 weeks before the current visa expires.  Only if you got the visa through us, you can also book the extensions with us.

What happens if I want to stay longer after using all extensions?

For now, and as long as Indonesia does not change the regulations meanwhile, you can apply for an ONSHORE VISIT VISA without having to leave the country. Same process, but remember the initial onshore visa is valid 30 days, and not 60.

Also this onshore visa can be extended 4 x 30 days, so you get another 150days in total.

What do I pay for, why is it more expensive than the basic visa fee?

We apply on your behalf and with the assistance of an accredited visa agent.

Our team and our partners team work roughly 15-20h for each application to ensure that everything is in proper order, data is pre-validated, payments are handled properly, we handle submissions and communication with the immigration department if necessary.

We pay salaries, taxes and comply with all laws and regulations of Indonesia, which is important to us.

We are available and answer any questions travellers have (and there are many) before, during and after the application process. The devil is in the detail these days.

We are ensuring that applications are processed in a timely manner, and stay in touch with the immigration officers, if there are further clarifications needed.

For the current visa type that's available (B211A), the visa agent needs to also provide a sponsor letter, basically taking responsibility and becoming liable for wrongdoings of the traveler.

We provide several international bank accounts, allowing a majority of our clients to save 35-50USD on international banking fees.

Do I need your service? Technically, any traveler can try to apply for a visa on the website of the immigration department, if they can provide a sponsor and handle the immigration website (https://visa-online.imigrasi.go.id/), upload the proper and complete documentations without any errors. The total costs for doing it yourself will be 50USD + IDR 200,000 + banking fees depending on the payment method. We don't know of a single person who managed to get the visa directly online during the pandemic; does not mean it's not possible, but it's not as easy at it seems. We had several seasoned travellers who spent hours and applied themselves - failed, and came to us afterwards.

How do I pay after I applied?

Payment is easy. You will receive a bill with all the details.
To save you costs on international banking fees and currency exchange, we are using a Wise Ltd account that can be used for the currencies below. If you have a bank account in the following countries, you can transfer in the shown currencies via YOUR local bank account and do not pay international transfer fees:

  • Australia in AUD
  • EU in EUR (convenient SEPA transfer). Also works for Norway, Switzerland, Monaco)
  • New Zealand in NZD
  • Singapore in SGD
  • UK in GBP
  • USA in USD

Or, you can also wire the money directly to our local bank in Indonesia in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) by making an international transfer. Please make sure that we receive then the full amount in IDR. Thank you.

What will it cost to come to Bali? What other costs will I have to cover?

Aside your flight from your home destination and the cost for the visa that you choose, these are the approximate additional costs in USD per person:

  • You need a PCR test before boarding the plane to Indonesia, which in most countries is not free
  • The Quarantine  and Repatriation Packages can cost you between USD 100 and 200 per night, depending on the hotel category. Included: 3 meals a day, airport transfer to hotel. If you travel with a companion and share a room, the cost for the package gets cheaper per person (double occupancy). The 2 PCR tests taken during the quarantine are charged separately (ca USD 70 in total, but will be paid to the hotel)
  • Flight Jakarta to Bali USD 50-100  with a domestic airline (applies only if you have to do the quarantine in Jakarta and plan to fly to Bali after the quarantine.
  • Travel Insurance that can cover up to USD 100,000 covid related medical costs, in case you get covid while in Indonesia and need to be treated
Which nationalities can NOT apply?

Due to pre-existing travel restrictions nationals from following countries cannot apply for visit visas for Indonesia.

  1. Afghanistan
  2. Guinea
  3. Israel
  4. Kamerun
  5. Liberia
  6. Nigeria
  7. North Korea
  8. Somalia
What else do I need to know beforehand? What could go wrong? What are your terms and conditions?

Rules and regulations can change quite quickly during these uncertain times, which is something that is beyond our control.

There are two main risks that we want you to be aware of, before applying for a visa and planning your trip to Bali, .

1.) The government could technically change the regulations any day, and deny the arrival of any applicant coming to Indonesia, such as putting your nationality onto the list of banned countries, increasing the mandatory quarantine, etc. This means for example, that even if you have already received your e-visa and bought a flight ticket, you might not to able to ravel to Indonesia as planned and have to reschedule, if certain regulations are changed.

2.) Also, the immigration can deny your application, without giving any reasons or feedback to us our our facilitating visa agent. This happens very very rarely but it can happen and the immigration office has the right to do so.

Therefore please check our terms & conditions before you apply:

  1. We are cooperating with our partner visa agency to facilitate your visa application and necessary documentation. The application is handled by the immigration office once our partner has submitted all documents and started the process. Neither bali.com nor our partner is issuing any visa. Only the Indonesian government has the right to issue visas.
  2. Only once we have received the payment, we can start to process the visa application with the immigration officials.
  3. Once the visa application is in process and has been handed over to the immigration office, it cannot be cancelled, and no refund can be granted.
  4. The immigration office has the right to decline your application without giving any reason. In such as case no refund can be given.
  5. We adhere to Indonesian immigration rules and regulations. We are not responsible if there is any sudden changes published by the Indonesian government, which may cause a delay or rejection of your application or entry into the country or any immediate changes (no refund policy).
  6. In case of any delay in the process, such as but not limited to: closure of immigration office, problems with the technology, public holidays, etc,  Bali.com is not responsible for any delays occurring.
Good to know: Digital Nomads & Income Taxes

Digital Nomads & Remote Workers

The pandemic and the increasing popularity of freelancer websites gave rise to the digital nomad life style; working from anywhere online, getting paid to a bank account outside of Indonesia, not paying any taxes, having clients from all over the world. And there are many people in Bali who do just that. Technically, from the perspective of having a business visa, this is still a very "grey area "and Indonesia has been discussing to issue special visas for digital nomads, but there is nothing official yet.

What is clear is, with the visit visas that exist right now, you CANNOT work in Indonesia and make an income, particularly you cannot be paid in Indonesia. And the classic digital nomad, who works and lives in Indonesia, and offers freelance services but not declaring any income, and also not having a legal structure (company) and a permit (Investor KITAS etc) to do so in Indonesia is at risk of violating quite a few regulations. Many nomads are not aware of that.

Then there is the remote worker who is registered officially abroad and works for a company abroad. They come to Bali for a staycation, and instead of being in a home-office they are in Bali. That's less critical than being a digital nomad in relation to the visa status. And nobody can or does check wether these remote workers are on a long holiday or doing a sabbatical. But, also here, it's a grey area and nobody gets into trouble, until they do. The following chapter is very important in relation to "staying longer in Indonesia".

Good to know about taxes if you intend to stay more than 183 days in Bali over a period of 12 months

Income tax liability - income in Indonesia and global income

A person’s liability for Indonesian tax is determined by their residence status. You become technically a resident in Indonesia if you stay in Indonesia for a total period of more than 183 days in any 12-month period. And that can have a big impact on your income liability, because

Residents are taxed on their global total income - regardless of where such income arises. The taxable income is like everywhere else in the world calculated after subtracting allowable deductions and personal allowances.

If you click on the button below you will be guided to an article from KPMG discussing these potential traps more in detail.
