Second Home Visa for Bali (Indonesia) launched in 2022
There had been numerous announcements and rumours about an upcoming “Digital Nomad Visa”. The Second Home Visa launched end of 2022 and turned out to be not suitable for the “Digital Nomad Commmunity” due to the requirements. The”proof of funds” requirements were substantial therefore it would be misleading to call this Visa a “Digital Nomad Visa”.
The government stated specifically the Visa is suitable for: “Investors, Travelers and Elderly / Retirement Tourists”.
The Online Visa Application on the immigration website is NOT available anymore. It might be available through the Embassies, but we have no confirmation about that.

The initial target: “Second Home Visa to attract more foreigners living in Indonesia”
“Towards the implementation of the G20 Summit, today we officially launched the Second Home Visa today. The aim is to attract foreign visitors to Bali and various other destinations” stated Pak Widodo Ekatjahjana, the Acting General of the Immigration.
Second Home Visa Requirements – FAQ

The online application and requirements have been removed from the immigration website by now. Therefore, we do not know if it is even still available or under revision or will be renamed.
These were the requirements at the time:

Official Regulations and Requirements for the Second Home Visa (in Bahasa Indonesia – PDF)
- bank account statement owned by the applicant or a guarantor (the conditions to provide a guarantor are not yet clear yet)
- You can own a property in Indonesia (probably of minimum the same value) Clarification: Even though you cannot own land in Indonesia, you can lease the land and own the buildings that is built on the land
It is expected that the minimum funds of IDR 2bn will have have to be in the account permanently, and that immigration will check sometimes, whether this minimum amount is still in the bank.
Official Regulations and Requirements for the Second Home Visa (in Bahasa Indonesia – PDF)
First, you CANNOT work in Indonesia with this Visa. Means, you can not be a life coach in Indonesia, a manager of a business, and neither can you create any income in Indonesia through activities in Indonesia and therefore be paid to a bank account in Indonesia. It is not a work permit.
You can be a remote worker, freelancer for entities abroad, be on staycation or simply stay here as a tourist. IN the press release “investment” is also mentioned. However, being an investor in Indonesia does also come with other requirements depending on what type of investments are done (e.g. company shareholder).
You can apply for the Second Home Visa online HERE
Beside providing all the documents and payments you will have to agree to the terms (source ID immigration):
The price is IDR 3,000,000 (ca. USD 220).
But, in addition you will have to pay IDR 12,000,000 for the ITAS (5 year permit) and IDR 6,000,000 for IMK permit.
in Total IDR 21,000,000
Yes, the Visa holder can sponsor his spouse and children.
At this point we don”t foresee that the requirement of having to proof funds of USD 140,000 or above will be changed. We might be wrong, but for now the Second Home Visa is what the government has created to attract foreigners to stay longer in Indonesia. What was referred to as Digital Nomad Visa previously, assuming that the hurdle to get it would be lower, is probably not going to happen, or not soon. It is also expected that the Second Home Visa will eventually fully replace the Retirement Visa.
