Yes, you need a Visa for traveling to Bali, unless you are a national of one of the 9 ASEAN countries, Hongkong, Columbia or Timor Leste and stay less than 30 days)

The new tourist tax is effective since 14th February 2024 (Tourist Levy for INTERNATIONAL visitors)
- The Fee is IDR 150,000 per person (ca. USD 10 and AUD 15)
- The tourist tax (levy) is a local tax that the Bali administration government implemented. It is only related to Bali and not to Indonesia
- Be careful about Scammer sites, which mushroomed since the tax has been introduced.

Your Passport needs to be valid at least 6 months from day of arrival. There are No exceptions! The airport staff might not let you board, and for sure immigration officers they will send you back! Make sure your passport is valid.

Yes, as per regulations you do need a return ticket (or onwards ticket) when you arrive in Bali.
Already when applying for the Visa you might need one, depending on which Visa you are applying for.
Sometimes you might not even have to show the ticket to anyone when you arrive, but it could happen.
What happens if I arrive without a return or onward ticket?
If you don't have a return ticket, the officers might ask you to buy one right there and then, otherwise they won't let you into the country.

DPS Airport Flights to BaliDon't bring more than the equivalent value of IDR 100,000,000 cash into the country (ca. AUD 10,000). Otherwise you have to declare and pay taxes.
Yes, the fares to Jakarta from outside Indonesia can be significantly cheaper, depending on the season you intend to travel. Backpackers who have more time than money sometimes choose that route.
After landing in Jakarta you would then take a domestic flight with one of the budget airlines on the same day to Bali.
Airlines such as Citilink, Super Air Jet, Batik Air, Air Asia, Lion Air, and Garuda are flying to Bali several times a day. Ticket price one way: 50-150USD.
If you choose this option it's good to at least have 4h difference between your arrival in Jakarta and the next flight to Bali. Because you will have to go through immigration, pick up your luggage and then go to the terminal to catch your domestic flight.
