Kuta Beach Bali

Bali is famous for its beaches, and none is more famous than Kuta Beach. Traditionally an unimportant place for the Balinese, it was first popularized by visiting surfers, and then by backpackers travelling through Southeast Asia. Restaurants and hotels began to spring up to accommodate visitors, and the area grew from there, becoming the most popular and crowded in Bali.

Kuta Beach Atmosphere

Today, a busy street runs along the beach, lined with apartments, malls, hotels, convenience stores, restaurants, and bars blasting music. The beach is full of chairs and loungers for rent and vendors are everywhere. Many local and visiting families with children play in the water, which is safe but can have strong currents at times, and is dirtier than in other places. Kuta Beach’s, small and gentle waves and soft sand bottom make this a popular place for people learning to surf, and there can be hundreds of surfers out on any given day, even if there are no waves. Add in joggers, yoga enthusiasts, and groups playing football, volleyball, and beach tennis, and you have a beach that is always alive and full of action.

Kuta Beach Goot to Know

If you are looking for a place to relax in peace and quiet, this is not it, but if you want to experience the heart of Bali’s busy beach culture, or see one of its most historic tourist locations, Kuta Beach is worth at least one visit. Be advised that the traffic here is some of the heaviest on the island and parking is often non-existent, especially for cars, so try to get dropped off by a driver or taxi, or park far away from the beach and take a long walk through the busy alleys of Kuta to get here. To beat the crowds (maybe) come early in the morning, when everyone is still sleeping, but for the full-on Kuta Beach experience, come at sunset, when mobs of tourists and locals watch the sun go down with a drink, snap photos of each other, enjoying this unique atmosphere.

Indonesian Becak Museum is located on Sunset Road – Kuta area, precisely in the area of Losari Hotel Kuta. This museum has been established since March 2013, together with the grand opening of the Losari Sunset Kuta Bali Hotel. In this museum, you will find dozens of collections of becak (three-wheeled rickshaw used as public transport in many places in Indonesia at the past), which were directly brought from several regions in Indonesia such as Makassar, Surabaya, Ambon, Semarang and many more.

DMZ art museum is such a fun place to visit in Bali. They have a lot of rooms with a lot of three-dimensional images that look like flat two-dimensional paintings until you see the final photos. Staffs will always ready to guide you on where to stand and how to pose for the best shot. There’s also photographers & photo printing service inside that can print the photos by the photographers in 6R size to take home.

This surf break is situated about one kilometre offshore, at the south of Kuta Reef, further away from the runway extending into the ocean.

It is very recommended for you to hire a boat to get there, as paddling can be very challenging and way too far.

There are two peaks at the Airport, which are very popular to line up at the surfing season. You can expect a huge wall for about 50-70m during high tides.

Airport Lefts is more opened than another nearby spot Airport Rights and Kuta Reefs, so it can be heavily affected by a strong crosswind. This spot tends to get very crowded but as is true in much of Bali the vibe is mellow if you’re respectful and don’t get

Airport Rights is hidden at the end of Bali Airport runway. The best way to get there is definitely by hiring a local boat. Most of the fishermen in Jimbaran Beach know the spots and will gladly bring you there for a reasonable price. It is very recommended for you to approach this spot from Jimbaran, rather than from Kuta as it is easier for you to get you to the line-up from this side.

Expect big crowd during the peak season with good swell, high tides and not so windy. From 1-2 metre, you can expect Airport Rights to be breaking for nearly 100 meters with the odd barrel or two. It is rare you’ll catch this wave on your own so be patient and respectful in the line-up.
