Pura Tamba Waras was founded around the 12th century. According to some historical records, The King of Tabanan, Cokorda Tabanan, was very ill and no treatment was able to cure his sickness. The servants received a revelation to do some kind of ritual to help the king got better, in their revelation they were asked to find a smoke in the forest as a guide for finding the cure. After a long walk in the Batukaru forest, a pillow of smoke came from a coconut that has been burnt on the ground under the bamboo clumps. They did a ritual right on that spot and finally, the cure for the king is granted by the forest guardian. Not long after the king consuming the medicine, he was cured and become healthy again. Soon, the king commanded to build a place to worship in that area and named it “Tambawaras”. Because Tamba means medicine/ cures and waras means healed.
