Gili Air is the island that is closest to Lombok
Often the first point of touchdown for tourists looking to escape Bali. Being the first island you’ll cross into fromo Lombok, Gili Air is more developed than Gili Meno and less rowdy compared to Gili Trawangan.
Tourists visiting Gili Air may visit several locations to admire Indonesia’s marine wildlife such as sea horses, turtles, colorful fishes, and other underwater dwellers among them.

Tourist facilities on Gili Air are very complete, there are facilities such as hotels, restaurants, and bars, so that they can make tourists comfortable visiting this island. Budget-friendly accommodation such as bungalows and private villas with eye-catching decor to relax yourself on the island. Although some are more inland, the beaches are never too far a walk to get to for sunset.
Many local booths rent masks, fins, and snorkels, or perhaps join a snorkel cruise that goes around all three islands and stop at all the great snorkeling locations. The waters around the Gili Islands have clear visibility reaching 30 meters deep that allow you to spot sea turtles around the area easily.
There are many relaxing activities at various institutions including yoga at a meditation center, diving schools to learn the basics, and with how warm the water temperature is all year, there are watersports available for anyone at any level. You wouldn’t expect it, but there are lovely boutiques and local stalls that sell clothing, handicrafts, and locally produced jewelry that make really cute souvenirs and gifts.
The Gilis are an easy place to relax in – with no loud and motorized vehicles such as cars or motorbikes, you are able to explore the small islands on foot. It’s not every day that you wake up to living on a small and sparsely inhabited island. Alternatively, you are able to rent a bike for a cheap fee to be used all day, and there are cidomo (horse-drawn carriages) to take you around as well, commonly found in Lombok.
