Things to Do in Bali
A New Chapter of French Soul, Village Warmth & Genuine Hospitality in Bali
Bali, 10 December 2025 — A beloved neighborhood institution begins a new era as Cork Bistro & Wine Bar officially transforms into Cork French Tavern, unveiling a refreshed concept that blends French village cooking, heartfelt hospitality, and the warm community spirit of Sanur.
Originally created by and for wine lovers, Cork offered the neighborhood a relaxed space to enjoy great wines and honest food at fair prices. After three years of serving the Sanur community, the team felt the island was missing something special: authentic French homestyle cuisine rooted in village traditions.
This new chapter comes to life with the arrival of Chef Stéphane Simond, whose rich career in France, Switzerland, and the Caribbean brings authenticity, technique, and soul to the kitchen. His presence inspired what the team calls Cork 2.0 — a warmer, more expressive evolution of the Cork people already know and love.
A return to the tavern spirit
The rebrand embraces the heritage of French taverns — the earliest restaurants, where travelers and villagers stopped not just to eat, but to talk, share stories, and feel at home.
“Cork is all about sharing — sharing food, sharing drinks, and sharing moments. We’re putting human connection back at the center of hospitality.” — Anthony, Manager of Cork French Tavern
The new menu reflects this spirit with: • French classics like mussels and beef bourguignon • Signature dessert: our Raspberry & Pistachio Chantilly Pavlova • Honest, soulful dishes inspired by French villages • A curated wine list offering excellent bottles at approachable prices
Warm, cozy, and convivial — Cork French Tavern is designed to be the kind of place where conversations linger and guests return.
A vision shaped by Sanur
Cork French Tavern’s evolution is anchored in a commitment to the neighborhood: a chef-driven restaurant rooted in quality, comfort, and genuine hospitality. After months of menu testing and community feedback, Cork French Tavern presents a culinary experience that feels familiar, elevated, and unmistakably Sanur.
“My goal at Cork is simple: cook the food I grew up with, the food of French villages — honest, generous, and made with heart. I want every dish to feel comforting, yet crafted with precision and soul.” — Chef Stéphane Simond
A home for everyone
Cork French Tavern aims to be a comforting space for all:
• Bali residents enjoy a little journey to France — no passport needed • Tourists discover a warm, familiar corner after their island adventures • Everyone is welcomed as family, from the moment they walk in
“The moment you enter Cork, you are not just a guest — you become part of our family.” — Anthony
“Authentic French food made by a team of Frenchies… magnifique! We can’t wait to welcome you with open arms and a glass of wine.” — Stijn & Chef Stéphane
