Where to Stay in Ubud – Choose your Location Wisely

If you don’t know Ubud, it’s a bit of a challenge to find the best suitable area for you to stay. Because, like Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta etc, there is no real clear line where Ubud begins and Ubud ends.

The “main center” of Ubud is situated between following streets:

Main Road Jl. Raya Ubud
Jl Monkey Forest (south of Jl Raya Ubud)
Jl Hanuman (south of Jl Raya Ubud)

In this area you can easily walk and there are plenty of shops, restaurants, cafes, yoga shalas and all kinds of amazing places to explore by foot.

Book Hotels & Villas in Ubud

Don’t get fooled by the name

The great marketing geniuses of hotels and restaurants in this “very large Ubud area” call any place “Something Something Ubud” even if the place is 30min away from the center – by car!.

There are many places south of Ubud monkey forest whose name would suggest they are in Ubud, but technically they are in the Village Mas already or somewhere in-between.

Staying a bit outside of Ubud is of course not necessarily a problem, because some hotels offer shuttles, or some travelers are happy to jump on a scooter, and because some of the best hotels, resorts and villas are nestled within lush nature outside of Ubud and not in the center of Ubud..

But if you do. not choose an accommodation in walking distance of the Touristic Center of Bali (again, pls check our map) then you will have to think about transportation (more info in our guide). And as mentioned, some hotels offer free shuttle services, but hose minibuses also get stuck in traffic.

Hint: If you cannot rent a scooter or are not comfortable with staying a bit outside Ubud to enjoy the amazing lush nature, amazing villas and hotels located here, then you should aim for booking your hotel within the blue area of our map.
