DJ Harvey will be residing at Klymax Discotheque, Potato Head this May, commencing an eagerly awaited month-long residency.
The DJ, producer and global scene provocateur will take the controls every Saturday night for four consecutive weekends from 11 May to 1 June, performing all night long for each show.
While Harvey is no stranger to DJ residencies — his pivotal Ministry of Sound sessions and Mercury Rising at Pikes Ibiza are the stuff of legend — this marks the first time he’s found a musical home in a venue he helped create from ground to sound. Opened with an all-night session by Harvey himself on New Year’s Eve, all aspects of Klymax are designed to Harvey’s specifications, with the seasoned selector pouring every ounce of a lifetime’s knowledge of nightclub experience into building the ideal space for himself, the crowd and the guest DJs he invites to play there. Every element is perfectly pitched to translate Harvey’s irrepressible dancefloor sonics exactly as he envisions, from the DJ booth and sound system to the lighting and acoustics and, as he likes to say with a smile, down to the bathrooms.

Purnama, or the Full Moon Festival, is a significant monthly ceremony in Bali’s Hindu culture, celebrated during the full moon. During this time, Balinese Hindus gather at temples to offer prayers, perform rituals, and make offerings to the gods and goddesses. The ceremony is believed to harness increased spiritual energy from the full moon, allowing participants to connect with the divine and seek blessings for themselves and their loved ones. One of the central rituals involves presenting beautifully decorated baskets, called “banten,” filled with rice, flowers, fruit, and sweets as symbols of gratitude and respect. Overall, Purnama is a deeply meaningful celebration of Balinese culture and spirituality, providing an opportunity for reflection, connection, and seeking divine blessings.

Event Details
Tumpek Wayang is another important day in the Balinese Hindu calendar that is dedicated to the art of shadow puppetry, known as Wayang Kulit. It is also known as Tumpek Krulut or Tumpek Wayang Wong.
On this day, Balinese Hindus offer prayers and blessings to the traditional puppeteers, or dalang, and to the puppets themselves, as a way of honoring and giving thanks for their important role in preserving and promoting Balinese culture and traditions.
The main ritual of Tumpek Wayang involves a special offering ceremony known as ‘matur piuning’, where offerings of rice, fruits, and flowers are placed in front of the puppet theater or wayang pavilion. The dalang and their assistants also perform a special purification ceremony, known as ‘ruwatan’, to ensure the spiritual purity and effectiveness of the puppets.
In addition to the offering ceremony, there are also other rituals that are performed, such as prayers, blessings, and purification ceremonies, to ensure the continued success and popularity of the shadow puppetry art form, and to honor the skill and dedication of the puppeteers and their assistants.
Overall, Tumpek Wayang is a day to celebrate and honor the art of shadow puppetry, which is an important part of Balinese culture and tradition, and to recognize the important role that puppeteers play in preserving and passing on this ancient art form to future generations.

Galungan is one of the significant festivals celebrating the victory of dharma (virtue) over adharma (vice). It marks a ten-day period when the spirits of the ancestors are believed to visit the island. Balinese Hindu families will welcome the spirits with prayers and offerings. Dressed in traditional clothes, women balance on their heads the offerings made out of fruit and flowers, stacked up high and neatly in baskets. The streets are filled with the beautiful ‘penjor’, tall bamboo poles decorated with different patterns of woven palm leaves, while the lower base is a unique covered stand made to place some small offerings. The Galungan celebration will go on for ten days until Kuningan, the day when the spirits leave earth.

Kuningan marks the end of Galungan; the time when the ancestor spirits leave the island to return to their heavens above. Special offerings such as yellow rice are prepared (Kuningan is derived from the word kuning, which means yellow) and placed together with fruit and flowers in a small bowl made out of coconut leaves. The offerings stand as a symbol of gratitude for all that life has given in happiness, health and prosperity. Contrary to several other cultures all around the world that celebrate the New Year with sparkling festivities and ending the year with a bang, the Balinese New Year is a six-day celebration. One of the days is dedicated to complete silence – NYEPI, when the entire island comes to a standstill. With no scheduled incoming or outgoing flights from Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar (DPS). It’s indeed an exceptional experience, not only for the Balinese but also for all the visitors that are in Bali during Nyepi. If you are in Bali during Nyepi, make sure you do not plan any traveling or outside activities.

The Galungan celebration will go on for ten days until Kuningan, the day when the spirits leave earth.

Candidasa – Guide & Insights
Candidasa is a relatively small village with the Jl Raya Candidasa main road going through it, and you’ll find that the beachfront properties of 5* hotels and resorts are right by the ocean. Since Candidasa serves as a base for travelers who seek to adventure out east away from the tourist areas, it even becomes a rest stop for those looking to visit Amed.
Hotel & ResortsFrom a simple bungalow by the beach to an international five-star resort; Candidasa has several options of accommodation that will meet any traveller’s budget. Don’t miss out on the relaxing view of the ocean from whichever lodging you choose, because they’re all so near and walkable. A quiet break from everything, Candidasa has all kinds of accommodation just a stone’s throw away towards the beach.
AccommodationThe hotels have their restaurants for your convenience, and most serve a selection of international food. If you’re seeking out a place to eat outside the lavish hotels, you can wander around the main street of Raya Candidasa and check out the great lineup of restaurants serving delicious local and international dishes. Although the village doesn’t offer a vibrant nightlife, however you’ll find some cafes feature local bands or oftentimes a Balinese dance performance as entertainment, and pool tables are available in several of the bars in the area.
Going outBeaches in Candidasa mostly function as ports and fishing villages, as well as seaweed and salt farming, which may be of interest to visitors. Further off the coast, there are several stunning snorkelling and dive spots surrounding three islets, which you can see from the bay. It’s a short half-hour boat ride on the traditional jukung, a fishing canoe. The strong currents might catch divers off guard, however there will be guides and experienced instructors who will advise the expedition, so this would not be an ideal spot for beginners.
BeachesThere is a huge lotus lagoon in the middle of town, which is a magnificent sight when the flowers are in bloom. The village temple originates from the 11th century and is located on the opposite side of the lagoon. Also close by is the isolated village of Tegunan Pegringsingan, one of the oldest villages in Bali. Tenganan village, located northwest of Candidasa, has a rich history, being protected from the influence of outsiders by a solid stone wall. Even as the world evolves around them, they are still upholding their ancient pre-Hindu customs. They are also known for their traditional festivals and unique technique of weaving, called the ‘double ikat’. Visitors are welcomed, and although there is no entrance fee, a small donation is requested as you enter the village.
Several hike trails for explorers looking to get into nature. Adventurous travellers can trek the hilly-scape nearby “Bukit Asah” and set-up a tent for a weekend camping trip. You get a clear view of the ocean and it becomes a great place for sunset spotting. The Gedong Gandhi Ashram near the Lotus lagoon accepts donations for weekly yoga classes in English. Backtracking to Padangbai Port, experience an odyssey by taking a submarine, called the Odyssey, and submerge into the sea for a wonderful experience underwater without having to get wet.
Like many parts in Bali, the village of Candidasa was not discovered until 1960 by visitors. Instead, it was a sleepy town called Cilidasa which means ten children. The name was derived from an old statue in the town temple of the fertility goddess Hariti surrounded by children, local myths have turned the statue into a pilgrimage spot for couples looking to conceive. Back then it was also known by another name, Teluk Kehen, translated to “Bay of Fire”.
Transportation in the area is somewhat difficult—no other public transportation is available except local taxis. Most of the tourists are dropped off on a Friday and picked up on the Sunday. Although most tourists rent scooters to get around Bali, regular bikes are also encouraged to freely explore the surrounding area. However when going into rough terrain through back roads, a car rental with a driver is recommended to view nearby attractions.
