Adrian Huertas Becomes Youngest WorldSSP Champion with Historic Win at Jerez

Adrian Huertas (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) made history on Saturday, becoming the youngest-ever FIM Supersport World Champion after securing third place in Race 1 at the Prometeon Spanish Round in Jerez. The podium finish crowned Huertas as the 2024 World Supersport Champion, adding to his 2021 WorldSSP300 title, and cementing his legacy as the first rider to claim both WorldSSP300 and WorldSSP titles.

Huertas entered the weekend with a 45-point lead over Stefano Manzi (Pata Prometeon Ten Kate Racing) and only needed five points to secure the championship. Despite starting from pole, he faced a tough battle, losing positions early on. A dramatic incident at Turn 13 saw Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) collide with Jorge Navarro (Orelac Racing VerdNatura), leaving Huertas clear to focus on Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) ahead. Though he closed the gap, Huertas maintained third place, sealing the title with a hard-fought performance.

Reflecting on his victory, Huertas said, “I feel incredible. This season has been a real fight, and the last few races were especially challenging with some issues we had to overcome. But we stayed on the bike, scored the points we needed, and today we achieved the world title. I’m so grateful to my team for believing in me, even when I wasn’t a podium contender in this class.”

Huertas also set a new record, surpassing Chris Vermeulen to become the youngest WorldSSP champion in history. As the first rider to win both the WorldSSP300 and WorldSSP titles, Huertas now looks ahead to a new chapter in 2025, when he steps up to Moto2™.

Commenting on his journey, Huertas added, “It’s hard to imagine a better season. Switching to Ducati wasn’t easy, but we handled the transition well, winning when we had to and staying consistent when it mattered. I’m incredibly proud to have shown that a rider can come from WorldSSP300 and build a successful career in WorldSBK. This is just the beginning.”
