This surf break is situated about one kilometer offshore, at the south of Kuta Reef, further away from the runway extending into the ocean. It is recommended that you hire a boat to get there, as paddling can be very challenging and way too far.
There are two peaks at the Airport, which are very popular to line up at the surfing season. April through October is the dry season. A South swell brings in 4 to 5 foot sets is Ideal. If it’s any larger than that, the airport’s left side will begin to closeout. Southeast Tradewinds are favored here. The wave isn’t very hollow or powerful, and only lasts maybe 150 to 200 feet.
When a strong crosswind blows, Airport Lefts is more exposed than neighboring spots Airport Rights and Kuta Reefs. The crowds here may be intimidating, but if you treat other surfers with respect and avoid dropping in on them, you’ll find the atmosphere to be chill, as it is across much of Bali.
