Information
Founded in 2016, SOS Indonesia began its journey in the most hotel-intensive area of the country: the beautiful island of Bali. Our staff picks up food from many prominent tourist hotels in Sanur, Kuta, Denpasar, and Legian. Due to Bali’s heavy traffic and its preference for motorcycles, SOS Indonesia utilizes motorbike pickups alongside trucks.
One of our managers, D J Denton, often helps with the collections, along with our food hygienist Yuni and one of our drivers. Initial deliveries to the Bali Street Kids Orphanage were met with enthusiasm, as the kids helped carry and store the food. Thanks to the high-quality donations from our hotel partners, only a small portion needs to be discarded, greatly reducing the need for composting.
With Bali’s fertile environment, SOS focuses more on rescuing edible food than on composting. Our second orphanage serves 1,500 children, many of whom have disabilities. We are continually expanding our network of recipient kitchens and adding new hotels to our list of donors each week. We are grateful for the Bali Hotel Association and the generous hotel managers who have committed to food rescue. Bali’s green initiatives are evident everywhere, and we are inspired by the goodwill of the community.
