Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, as the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, predicted Bali would enter PPKM Level 3 by this week. But unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned after the authority announced that the fifth PPKM Level 4 in Bali would be extended to 6 September 2021.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) standards announced in November 2020, an area’s level status is determined using four factors. The ratio of hospital patients, the death rate, the number of cases per 100,000 people in two weeks, and the number of tests deployed.

Criteria for areas/ regions in Level 3:

• 10-30 individuals per 100,000 people were hospitalised in the previous week
• Over the past two weeks, there were 2-5 deaths per 100,000 people
• There are 50 to 150 active cases per 100,000 people.

Criteria for areas/ regions in Level 4:

• More than 30 persons per 100,000 people have been hospitalised in the previous week
• In two weeks, more than five deaths per 100,000 people 
• More than 150 active cases per 100,000 people. 

Sadly, Bali is still categorised as Level 4 at the moment. But, hopefully, after stricter implementation of health protocols across the island, Bali soon will follow other agglomeration areas Malang and Solo which have been successfully made to Level 3

The Indonesian government stated that the PPKM policy would remain effective as long as the COVID-19 outbreak exists. PPKM or Partial Lockdown is a mitigation strategy the government uses to balance disease control and a community’s economy.

Per 30 August 2021 (18:00 WIB), Bali has given the first jab of Covid-19 vaccines to 3,169,224 people, and 1,794,369 were fully vaccinated. More than 93% of the targeted population in Bali (ca. 3.4 million people) have received their first shot, and more than 52% have received their second jab. Leaving only about 235,906 people to receive their first immunisation. Bali authority predicts to have all of its targeted population fully vaccinated by the end of October 2021.

Latest Covid-19 statistics per Monday (30/8), 305 new infections in Bali, made total cases 106.458. Recent recoveries at 866, in total 96.642 with 50 recent deaths were reported, in total 3494. While in Indonesia, there were 5.436 new cases, pushing down the total infections to 4.079.267 with 132.491 total deaths and 3.743.716 recoveries.
