A group of young delegates, carefully selected by the AIS Forum Secretariat, have convened for the 2023 AIS Youth Conference. Their mission: to promote sustainable ocean protection and bolster the blue economy.

According to Riny, “The young generation is crucial in addressing global challenges faced by AIS countries in preserving oceans and maritime resources.”

Riny also outlined the conference’s agenda, featuring four principal topics: “AIS Youth for Ocean-based Climate Actions,” “Advancing Youth-led Blue Entrepreneurship,” “Project & Business Management 101 for AIS Youth,” and “Youth-advocacy in International Ocean Diplomacy.”

Over two days, AIS Forum’s youth delegates will discuss these critical topics. On the third day, they will visit one of Bali’s marine eco-tourism destinations.

Riny added, “They will engage in panel sessions, discussions, and visits to Bali’s local fishing industry and marine eco-tourism activities. Additionally, these young delegates will draft an AIS Youth Declaration, a crucial element in driving tangible action for a better marine future.”

In the context of the 2023 AIS Forum Summit, Riny expressed hope that a delegation of AIS youth would have the opportunity to attend the Leader’s Lunch with heads of state at the summit’s pinnacle. If this occurs, they will have the chance to share the advocacy and outcomes of the 2023 AIS Youth Conference with summit delegates.

In conclusion, Riny remarked, “The 2023 AIS Youth Conference represents a significant step in preparing the younger generation to take on leadership roles in protecting and fortifying our oceans and the blue economy. This is a concrete stride toward realizing the marine future we desire.”
