Bali’s roadmap to open again for international tourism in three phases

I Wayan Koster, the Governor of Bali has announced the plan on resuming all of the activities in the island within a decree with number 3355 of 2020 so-called “New Era of Life Order Protocol”. The governor explained the three stages of reopening the island of gods after attending a religious ceremony on Sunday at Besakih temple.
Stage 1
On 9 July 2020, according to the direction given by the National Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling Covid-19 in Indonesia, the implementation of the new normal life order is limited to the healthcare industry, government offices, customs and religious activities, finance, manufacturing, trade, logistics, transportation, cooperatives, MSMEs, traditional markets, modern markets, restaurants, food stalls, agriculture, plantations, marine/ fisheries, animal farming, public services and construction sector. Still, all students continue their study from home. Tourists attractions are allowed to open for all the visitors within Bali.
Stage II
31 July 2020, only if the first stage goes well domestic travellers from other islands in Indonesia are allowed to fly in for tourism purpose. Indonesian tourists and foreigners who happen to be in Indonesia during the pandemic will be able to visit Bali tourists attractions such as beaches, temples, waterfalls, museums and other activities.
Stage III
By the end of August, the Bali Provincial Government will re-evaluate the plan on opening the border for international tourists by 11 September 2020. However, the immigration has not announced when visa applications will be available again; also what other requirements need to be provided (PCR Test result or else).
“Therefore, we must act responsibly on dealing with Covid-19, while at the same time, we also need to continue our lives. These plans must be carried out gradually, selectively, and strictly followed the new era of life order protocol for productive and safe communities, “added Koster.
In line with the governor’s plan, Head of Bali Tourism Office – Putu Astawa immediately hold a virtual meeting with all the members in the organisation to discuss the preparation of new normal tourism protocols in every region on the island. Astawa explained, the Bali Tourism Office must carry out strict supervision on every tourism industry. All accommodations, restaurants or tourist attractions must obey health protocols to prevent the second wave of Covid-19.
Bali has recorded 1849 positive Covid-19 cases as of Sunday (5/7) afternoon, with 20 deaths and 967 recoveries. The provincial administration has reported an increasing number of local transmissions cases recently, particularly in the four regencies of Badung, Denpasar, Klungkung and Gianyar. This figure is relatively small compared to more than 63,749 cases and 3,171 fatalities in Indonesia.
